What are exosomes?
An exosome is an extracellular vesicle formed inside a cell and containing proteins, mRNA and microRNA among other substances. This type of vesicle is formed by a cell membrane of similar composition to the cell from which it originates and contains substances prepared inside the cytoplasm of that same cell.
An exosome acts like an e-mail that is sent from one cell to another with different messages, i.e. they are not cells themselves but enable intracellular communication. They act as a transport of genetic data and proteins to other cells in the body to determine when and how they should react.
